Hosted by the Haitian Ladies Network Steering Committee, Haitian Ladies Weekend convenes hundreds of women and young ladies of Haitian descent each year in Washington, DC. The weekend grew out of the long tradition of the DC Haitian Ladies Brunch launched more than 14 years ago. It provides an opportunity to engage with nationally recognized speakers, make authentic connections and network, and celebrate the Haitian culture....

Over the last 4 years we have hosted over 50 esteemed speakers and moderators including:

  • Karine Jean-Pierre – White House Deputy Press Secretary

  • Edwidge Danticat - Award winning Author 

  • Naomy Grand-Pierre, Olympic swimmer, represented Haiti in the 2016 games

  • Mirlande Manigat, former First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, Former Senator and Professor at University of Quisqueya 

  • Yanick Lahens, Writer, recipient of Le Prix Femina 

  • Claudette Antoine Werleigh, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti 

Under the theme “Igniting Our Power 2020: Reaching New Heights” we crafted a 4-hour virtual experience that broke geographical barriers gathering thousands of  women and girls from the US, Haiti, Canada, and Haitian diaspora communities worldwide. Participants enjoyed curated content including:

  • Girls Can Move Mountains docustory premiere and live audience Q&A

  • Angajew/Get Engaged inspirational segmentHaitian women change agents from across the globe

  • Live DJ,special guests, a virtual gift bag, and a first-ever message from a special guest from our partner Michelle Obama's When We All Vote

2020 speakers

Our speakers are exceptional and inspirational Haitian women leaders representing a wide spectrum in sectors, age groups, and locations in Haiti, US and diaspora communities worldwide. These women and young ladies all share their unique experiences, challenges and successes and speak to the fundamental importance of engaging in Haiti or in Haitian communities abroad.
